I was the news editor of a small daily newspaper in Alabama. My wife worked for the same newspaper at the time, and she stopped by their house to pick up some photos that we ran with the story, and she was warmly greeted. Metro weekly newspaper that no longer exists. What story or stories are you most proud of?

Covering Hurricane Sandy in 2012 was an adventure that included a lot of adrenaline and little sleep in the “early days” of using social media for good. I had my first staff byline at a small Connecticut newspaper in 2001. Describe the craziest or most fun story you have written.

I started writing in eighth grade for my middle school newspaper in 1999 and was hooked from there. I completed six internships at various outlets in Michigan and Ohio before getting hired at Automotive News in 2012, my first full-time gig. One day, I might pop up with an interview request when I feel they’re a good fit.

I covered Hurricane Sandy in Connecticut in 2012. That was my first experience really using social media and the publication’s website to break news and keep residents in the community informed. Our newspaper ended up winning an award for our reporting.

I’ve written a story at least once a week since 2012 when I walked into the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s independent, student-run newsroom unannounced asking for an assignment. By the end of my junior year I was running the paper, and one of my stories got picked up by a local newspaper.
