For eight years, YESS has held an annual fundraiser that is increasingly becoming part of the fabric of the Des Moines community. The YESS Duck Derby , started in 2007, is held on the day of the annual Kentucky Derby. This remarkable organization serves as a safe haven for the city’s most vulnerable youth.

Like Thomas, I began my freshman year in 2007 at Midwestern State University already knowing that I wanted to major in Mass Communication. I really did not know much about public relations, and it had never been presented to me as a career option. Thomas Bennett is the Public Affairs Manager at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
