Yet another month full of ad updates, from Meta creating ‘voice prints’ to Twitter trying to become YouTube with long-form content. We are here to keep you updated on all things ads.

Meta

Meta announces new patent for voice authentication

Meta has announced a new patent which is to create a ‘voice print’, essentially using a user’s voice for authentication to be able to access Meta platforms. Scarily in the announcement, we discovered that the technology will also listen in to conversations you are having with other Meta users (if they have uploaded their voice too) and suggest content/ads based on your conversations.

Everyone already thinks their phones are listening to them, and now they actually will be doing just that. It will be interesting to see the extent of how far this will go, especially with the Metaverse somewhere on the horizon.

Meta is currently experimenting with creating its own app store

Following the current trend of social media platforms trailing completely new tactics, Meta is experimenting with its own in-platform app store to compete with Apple and Google.

This is likely to make any ‘app download’ ads much cheaper as anything that advertisers can run in-platform will be cheaper due to the IoS 14 ad-pocalypse data tracking issues that hinder our campaigns each day.

Meta shares a new report on how to best use your insights

A 40-page report has been shared by Meta, which looks at how we should be integrating insights into our advertising. It is a very interesting read and shares what the best advertisers are doing in terms of using their insights.

The report also looks at how pixels should be used to maximise performance, which all advertisers should be doing for any traffic, lead generation or conversion campaigns due to the power of retargeting and lookalike audiences.

Twitter

Another month, another update to Twitter’s video usage

Twitter is working its way to becoming a video-focused platform to try and compete with YouTube, TikTok and every other platform as they almost all now have a strong video presence. To do this, Twitter has now updated Twitter Blue, so that subscribers can now upload video content up to two hours long – in the hope to bring more podcasts and long-form content to their entertainment offering.

In another update, Twitter is trying to expand its Twitter Blue offerings (likely due to the lack of subscribers), by adding a media studio. This includes a media library, scheduling tools, analytics and advanced production elements which will help advertisers create better video ads to run on the platform.
