In our latest episode of our Socially Unacceptable podcast, we discussed how we can understand our purpose and align it with our core values, character, and beliefs.

We sat down with award-winning author, communicator, and trainer, Andy Green, who wrote the world’s first book on ‘Creativity in Public Relations’. He guided us through this complex process of self-discovery, how to demonstrate a deeper understanding of our ‘why’ and how that can enhance our personal and professional lives. Covering;

  • Discovering values, characters, and beliefs
  • Creating a purpose manifesto
  • Brainstorming, how to get the best from your team
  • Understanding purpose and creativity

Looking Beyond the Purpose Manifesto

So, what exactly is a purpose manifesto? It is a statement that outlines the brand’s mission, vision, values, and overall purpose. It goes beyond just making profits and highlights the brand’s commitment to making a positive impact on society or addressing a specific problem. By clearly articulating the brand’s purpose, a manifesto can inspire both internal stakeholders and external audiences.

In today’s landscape, with the introduction of AI (Artificial Intelligence), brand and personal values can easily get lost – especially in the midst of AI-generated content. Nowadays, consumers are looking for more than just a product or service, having a clear and compelling purpose can set your brand apart from the competition.

And do traditional ideation methods still work? When asked about sparking creativity, Andy shares how we should approach brainstorming, which includes the notion of ‘green light’ and ‘red light’ thinking to welcome all ideas at first and then be more critical when it comes to the planning stage.

Speaking of AI, this is the focus of our next episode. As we speak with Andrew Bruce Smith, the Chair of CIPR AI in PR panel, on how marketers can use it to its full potential for their marketing.
