There’s been some social media updates that have filled us with excitement recently – particularly a highly anticipated Instagram update currently being tested! Here we’ve taken a deep dive into the changes happening across all of the top social media platforms so you’re up to date.

Instagram test native scheduling

Instagram have launched a live test of native scheduling within the app to a limited group of users – something social media managers everywhere will be pleased to know! This would streamline post scheduling since the switch to all videos becoming reels has only allowed for manual reel posting, causing a bit of havoc for social media teams.

Should it be rolled out, the post-scheduling option will be added to the advanced options in the post composer flow, with a new element that’ll enable you to set a date and time for the post to go live. This is being tested across posts and reels – with no information on story scheduling as of yet.

Facebook groups receives an update

Facebook groups are having a major update as per the announcement at the sixth edition of the Facebook Communities Summit. The updates include sharing reels in groups themselves complete with creative elements such as audio, text overlay and filters, and sharing public events as an Instagram story (as the meta platforms continue to merge and work together).

These updates aim to help users better connect with communities and facilitate better content sharing, as Facebook has always been a connected, community platform.

Twitter explore additional media sharing options

Twitter are aiming to become the ‘best place to share media’ after an update allowing users to upload up to four images, videos, and/or GIFS in one tweet.

This is a huge move as Twitter diversify from their original text-based platform to something more visual, in line with other social media channels. The focus of this update is to provide a way for creators to express themselves while the updates to the video carousel/immersive video player helps users to discover the new videos.

TikTok consider an adult only option

TikTok are considering introducing an adult-only option to live broadcasts which will limit the audience to those aged 18 and up. TikTok stated that this would be a ‘new way for creators to choose if they’d prefer to only reach an adult audience.

This update isn’t focused on allowing inappropriate content on the app, but rather to safeguard younger users from subject matters that are better suited for only adult audiences, such as alcohol led content. With this, TikTok are also raising the minimum age requirement for hosting live broadcasts from 16 to 18.

LinkedIn launch accessibility updates

LinkedIn have launched an array of accessibility updates, including working on their auto-captions for video content, a great update for both creators and audiences to support those with hearing disabilities and also users who prefer to view content without sound.

LinkedIn have also been working on their high contrast accessibility feature, allowing users to edit their contrast settings while previewing different contents. This will improve accessibility for users with a range of visual disabilities.
