Exxon Mobil denies concealing climate change info
New York State is investigating whether the company misled the public and investors about greenhouse gas dangers. Exxon’s social media channels are mum on the topic.
In response to a subpoena, an Exxon Mobil spokesman says the oil company “unequivocally reject[s] allegations that Exxon Mobil suppressed climate change research.”
The subpoena, issued by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, is part of the state’s investigation into whether the company deliberately misled the public and investors about climate change risks.
The oil behemoth has been silent on social media about the matter.
In recent months, several newspapers and news websites have published stories regarding Exxon Mobil’s alleged concealment of greenhouse gas dangers.
Exxon Mobil has issued the following statement:
We unequivocally reject allegations that Exxon Mobil suppressed climate change research contained in media reports that are inaccurate distortions of Exxon Mobil’s nearly 40-year history of climate research that was conducted publicly in conjunction with the Department of Energy, academics and the UN Intergovernental Panel on Climate Change.
The company has tried to position itself as the vanguard of energy research. On Oct. 15, Exxon Mobil published a response on its Perspectives blog.
