How to add a social media content manager to your company's Twitter page

By Bre Chamley

A quick guide to adding your social media agency and team members to your company's Twitter account

A phone with Twitter on it.Contrary to what you might think, your company's Twitter page does not provide unique usernames and passwords to share with your social media colleagues for them to log in. Instead, you assign page roles (which are different levels of managerial roles for your social media account) to your team via their personal Twitter account profile through a Twitter Ads account. This is important to know because the individuals who help manage your social media account will be ever-changing.

It’s important to note that only account administrators can grant other users access to the Ads accounts.

How to assign a new page role in Twitter Ads accounts:

  1. Log into your ads.twitter.com account.
  2. In the top right corner, select the name of your Ads account and select “Edit access to account” from the drop-down menu.

  1. Now on the multi-user login screen of the Ads account, choose “Add access.”
  2. Enter their Twitter handle (their username) in the text box.
  3. Choose the access level you want them to have from the drop-down menu.
    • Account administrator: “User has full access to ads.twitter.com, including the ability to create new account admins and ad managers, edit account access for administrators and ad mangoes, make changes to advertiser campaigns, and view performance data. Account administrators cannot post organic tweets but have the ability to create Promoted-only, or limited-delivery, tweets. Account admins also have access to credit card and billing information.”
    • Ad manager: “User can access ads.twitter.com, make changes to campaigns, and view performance data. Ad managers cannot grant users access to the ads account or post organic tweets but can create Promoted-only tweets.”
    • Creative manager: “User can access ads.twitter.com to modify creatives and view previews but cannot create or modify campaigns.”
    • Campaign analyst: “User can access ads.twitter.com and view performance data but cannot create campaigns or make changes to campaigns. Campaign analysts cannot grant users access to the ads account or post tweets of any kind.”
    • Organic analyst: “User can access analytics.twitter.com and view analytics but cannot view paid campaigns.”
    • Partner audience manager: “User can view, create, modify, and delete Custom Audiences through the Twitter API. Partner audience managers will be required to obtain authorization in order to update or deliver new audiences to an ads account. This permission level does not provide access to any data other than Custom Audiences they created.”
  1. Click “Save changes.”

Assigning page roles with Twitter Ads is helpful to know to help ensure your company’s security. When an employee leaves your company or you change social media agencies, don’t forget to remove those previous users’ access to your account to protect your brand.
