Who Provides Inspiration?

The HMA Public Relations team has many opportunities throughout the year for professional development.
Sometimes team members attend seminars related to our industry, sometimes they attend speeches given by recognized thought-leaders and sometimes they attend events featuring outstanding speakers with motivational or inspirational messages.
In no particular order, here is our list of the top speakers not related to our industry seen by HMA team members during 2018:

  • Jim Morris, former Major League Baseball pitcher and the inspiration for the film The Rookie. Morris went from being a high school baseball coach and teacher to making his MLB debut at the age of 35.  “How to make people better.”
  • Mike Pierce, known as “Antarctic Mike,” was one of the first to run the Antarctic Ice Marathon. He later became the first American to run the Antarctic 100k, a 62-mile jaunt on an ice shelf 600 miles from the South Pole.  “Importance of telling your stories.”
  • Sanjay Gupta, M.D., chief medical correspondent at CNN, who just also happens to be an author and a practicing neurosurgeon. And, yeah, he was selected as a White House Fellow, serving as a special advisor to First Lady Hillary Clinton. “When Medicine and Media Meet.”
  • Bruce E. Brown, director of Proactive Coaching, spent 35 years as a teacher, coach, athletic administrator at the junior high, high school, junior college and collegiate level. He coached football, basketball, baseball and volleyball and is a former national presenter for the NAIA’s Champions of Character Program.   “What are the traits of an elite competitor?”
  • Terry Bowden is the current head football coach at the University of Akron. Between himself, his father Bobby and brothers Tommy and Jeff, they have won 631 games. The current college football season is the 63rd consecutive year in which a “Bowden” is a college head football coach. “What is the secret to success?”
  • Pat Williams, co-founder of the Orlando Magic and basketball Hall-of-Famer. He was diagnosed in 2011 with Multiple Myeloma, an incurable form of cancer. He now has a clean bill of health. Pat and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of 19 children, including 14 adopted from four nations.   “What makes a leader?”
