#MediaMonday – Audrey Jensen

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Audrey Jensen, a real estate reporter at the Phoenix Business Journal.

So, Audrey, time to share!

Tell us how you got your start in writing? Tell us your story!

I’ve loved writing stories and journaling since I was a kid, but I didn’t discover journalism until I started college. I worked for the student paper for a few years and wrote for various weekly publications and magazines on a variety of topics in my hometown before I moved to Arizona to pursue journalism full time.

Tell us how you came to start working at the Phoenix Business Journal?

I moved to the Phoenix area a couple years ago to pursue a graduate degree in investigative journalism at the Cronkite School at ASU. While working on various stories through the program, I also interned as a breaking news reporter for more than a year at The Arizona Republic.

After graduating, I applied for a new reporter position at the Business Journal that focuses on the West Valley, where I live. I loved the idea of paying close attention to all of the new development and growth in the West Valley and feel lucky to be part of the team!

Tell us about the outlet and types of story pitches you want?

I report on commercial real estate, including industrial, retail, office and hospitality, and the economy in the West Valley cities. Our publication focuses on market intelligence, so any pitches related to new projects, developments, renovations, sales, leases, new firms, acquisitions and so on.

We also write features on executives as well as long-form stories on relevant topics and issues related to our beats. I also love in-depth research and reporting and would love to learn more about important topics or issues related to the business/development community – if you think of anything that would be important for us to cover, please reach out!

My colleagues also cover these areas:

  • Corina Vanek: CRE/Economy in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe
  • Brandon Brown: CRE/Economy in Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler
  • Angela Gonzales: Residential real estate including multifamily and any real estate related to healthcare and education in Phoenix metro
