Another month means another meet the team! For June, get to know all about our PR Apprentice and social media ads whizz, Tyler.

How long have you been at Prohibition? 1 year and 4 months

What do you love most about your job? I love the variety of work we do at Prohibition, one week I could be helping to throw a water fight for the Thai New Year, the next I could be out in the Yorkshire Dales filming a video on water management – it is the organised spontaneity that makes my job so great.

I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to learning new things, I like to know the ins and outs of everything and working in PR, I get to learn a lot. I have been here for nearly a year and a half now and I feel like I have learnt so much but I know there is still a lot more to learn and that excites me.

Tell us a bit about your journey to working at Prohibition. My story of making it to Prohibition is a little less conventional than others. In July of 2019, I had my first glimpse of what working at Prohibition is like and I loved it. I did work experience at Prohibition for a week whilst I was in the first year of sixth form doing my A-Levels, I got the PR bug and knew I wanted this as my future career it. I remember expressing this to the team at the end of my week and was very sad to have to go back to the usual sixth form student life.

From there I continued to work on my A-Levels until the world was shut down due to the pandemic. I didn’t know what to do, I had never really been interested in going to university and it was hard to really think about what I was going to do next with all that was happening in the world at the time. I picked up more hours at my supermarket job and was just waiting for everything that was happening to pass by.

It got to Christmas and I was contacted by Prohibition about potentially joining as an apprentice. I jumped at the chance and began swatting upon PR immediately. I found out on Christmas Eve that I had got the apprenticeship – talk about a great Christmas present!

What’s your top tip for someone looking to get into the PR industry? Be prepared to learn. There is so much information to take in when you start work in a PR role, I started taking notes on everything I possibly could. Luckily, I have a great team around me who helped me with anything I needed.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? This is probably a little different to most of the other team members but I would have to say mine is YouTube. As I mentioned, I am a bit of a nerd and learning is something that I find fun. YouTube allows me to research all of these topics that I like to learn about. I use it to listen to podcasts and think it is a great way to learn. In two minutes, I can find a video of an expert teaching about X topic – saves me having to do the research myself.

What do you love most about working/living up North? I love the space and the openness of the North. I recently drove to Edinburgh to go on holiday and I am always amazed at how pretty the North of England is.

What three things could you not live without? Dogs, Music, Karaoke machine.

Give us your favourite quote.

‘Our levels of success will rarely exceed our level of personal development’

If you could switch places with any celeb for the day – who would it be and why? It would have to be someone who has a different perspective of life to me. I would probably have to go for Mike Tyson, purely because I would love to see life through his eyes. He has gone from the most vicious man on the planet to a kind hearted, wise man and I think it would be very insightful.

What’s something you’re secretly (or not so secretly!) really good at/passionate about outside of work? I am definitely not good at what I am about to say, but I do take it with me everywhere I go. In lockdown I thought it would be great idea to buy a karaoke machine – this turned out to be the best decision of my life. I take it with me everywhere and it creates some extremely funny times.
