Meet the Media: Jennifer Ramsay, Editor-at-Large at Endeavor Business Media’s Market Moves

Jennifer Ramsay is the editor-at-large at Endeavor Business Media, where she curates the Market Moves newsletters, a series of cross-industry publications pulled together from various Endeavor Business Media outlets covering electric vehicles, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure and cybersecurity.

Can you tell us what types of stories, trends or issues are on your radar now?

I cover everything EVs and the occasional alternative energy story, so most of what I pay attention to is in that sphere. Right now, I’m focusing on the rollout of EV infrastructure and the health of EV start-ups. After speaking to a few industry experts, it seems like NEVI is, in some ways, causing harm along with its help. I’ve been putting together a story on it for a bit now.

What elements or characteristics do you look for in a story, and why?

This is actually pretty hard for me, since I tend to want to write a story on almost every interesting piece of news I see. I mostly look for big news, whether for the company involved, the government, or just in general.  One of the biggest questions I ask myself is “What are the implications?” If they are marked, widespread, or just a little peculiar, I feel like that’s story-worthy.

Describe the craziest or most fun story you’ve written.

I got to write a story on a local stray cat that had been “adopted” by a bed and breakfast. His name was Pip and he won the hearts of visitors and locals. Many had tried to adopt him or at least bring him inside, but he preferred his little home right outside the front door. It was even heated!

How long have you been in journalism and how did you get started?

I’ve been a journalist for just over four years now. I began in college with an internship at a newspaper local to my school covering local government as well as random features I came across in the area.

What advice do you have for PR people that want to pitch you or your publication?

I understand that it’s just a list they’re likely going down, but I get a lot of pitches about things that have nothing to do with anything I’ve ever reported on. So, it’s nice to just get something relevant to my beat, there’s an almost 100% chance I’ll take it.

Any pet peeves with PR people?

Repeated emails! I got the same email from a PR person for a week straight. It makes me really annoyed and less likely to even respond. I prefer an initial email and then a follow up (if necessary) 5-7 days later.

Tell us a little about yourself (family, interests, favorites, background, etc.)

I’m 23 years old and I’m from Lawrenceville, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. I got a communications degree from the University of North Georgia, with a concentration in multimedia journalism. I love to do puzzles, especially word-based ones, read/watch mysteries, and take walks. I have a dog, Avia, who’s a lovable, high-energy, 50-lb rescue, and love to travel with her and my sister to new places.

Finish this sentence: If I am not reporting, I am …
