Gallup examined how employee engagement and workplace elements impacted organizational outcomes, profitability, productivity, and wellbeing. The research compared levels of engagement in 2020 to 2022.

Quarterly surveys of 15,000 U.S. employees were conducted throughout 2022. 

Key findings include:
— Employee engagement declined from 36% in 2020 to 32% in 2023.
—- Employee engagement was defined as “the involvement and enthusiasm of employees in their work and workplace.”
—- 18% of full- and part-time employee respondents said they were actively disengaged within the workplace.
— 26% of respondents said they were “extremely satisfied” with their company as a place to work in 2020, compared to 20% in 2022.
— Employees aged 35 and under were more disengaged compared to pre-pandemic measures of engagement.
—- Younger employee respondents felt less cared about.
—- Younger employees said they felt a “decline in opportunities to learn and grow” post-COVID.
