#MediaMonday – Veronica Leon

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Veronica Leon, editor and publisher of Macaroni Kid editions across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Tempe and Arcadia.

How did you get your start in the media? What is your story?

I’m Veronica…wife, mother, small business owner, stay-at-home-mom, and publisher of Macaroni Kid since 2014.

I have been in Arizona for more than 40 years so consider myself a native Arizonan. I worked in healthcare for 15 years prior to getting into publishing, during which time I volunteered extensively, including as vice president of compliance and secretary for the National Society of Hispanic MBAS (NSHMBA). NSHMBA was created in 1988 as a non-profit organization to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development. I was also a member of eLatina Voices, an electronic forum connecting Latinas interested in economic, political, and social issues. For my contributions, I was honored in 2006 with the Valle Del Sol Profiles of Success award and in 2010 by AGUILA Youth Leadership Institute.

When I became a mom in 2011, I got involved and held many positions within the International MOMS Club and got more involved in my community. When looking for things to do I came across Macaroni Kid and their fun-filled calendar of events, which helped me find and schedule fun things to do with our club.

In 2014 the local publisher was hiring an assistant to help with the publication, and I jumped on it. I love everything about Macaroni Kid and have been part of this community of publishers since. I love connecting with my Scottsdale community, working with small businesses, and helping families find their family fun. Currently, we reach more than 20,000 subscribers with a variety of articles, local business information, giveaways, guides, and more to help make their planning easier.

Tell us about your outlet and types of story pitches you want?

Our readers at Macaroni Kid Scottsdale – specifically the areas I cover in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Arcadia and Tempe – are interested in family fun, local resources, featured events, products, activities and things to do in and around the area.
