#MediaMonday – Andrea Abbott

AndreaToday’s #MediaMonday comes to us from a delicious source! It’s Andrea Abbott, founder and editor of Arizona Bites.
How did you get into writing about food? Tell us your story/journey?
One of my friends didn’t want to go to an Arizona blogging event alone and asked me to go since I do photos/video. I was very nervous to go, but the other bloggers there inspired me to start something of my own.
Originally, I started Arizona Bites as a place where I could post photos I’ve taken over the years and blog about the places I liked. It grew faster than I anticipated.
The foodie community here in Phoenix is something really special and I’ve loved getting involved and being welcomed into it. The community spans food bloggers, Instagrammers and Yelpers. We all kind of know each other and encourage each other.
Tell us about launching Arizona Bites over the past few years?
Launching Arizona Bites has been an incredibly fulfilling endeavor. I’ve met new friends and tried things I never thought I would before. I’ve sharpened my skills as a photographer, videographer, and video editor and feel refreshed and inspired.
Where did you grow up?
Originally born in Texas, lived in Ohio for a while, went to college in Indiana, and now here in Arizona!
Favorite type of music?
I love anything electronic. I’m open to most music genres. Right now I really like Tep No, Nora En Pure, and kpop.
Favorite color?
Turquoise
Favorite place to visit?
This is tough! There are so many places in Arizona I love to go. I go to Prescott a lot. Outside Arizona I love Japan and am trying to go back soon!
What are some of your favorite local spots or things to do?
You’ll find me at OHSO at least twice a month. It’s my go-to when I want to go out to eat. I also love hiking. The hieroglyph trail by the Superstitions is one of my favorites.
Favorite food?
Dangerous question to ask a foodie. I’m not picky, I especially love Mexican food or anything spicy!
Least favorite food?
I don’t like eggs, but I’m always willing to try something new! I do have an allergy to peaches and broccoli which is a total bummer.
Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?
I work as a video producer full time, I’ve also worked on a couple feature films and been an extra.
I’m really nerdy, I love video games, sci-fi, and think Star Trek is better than star wars.
In addition to trying new food, I love cooking!
What should people be pitching you?
Any foodie event or food related need on behalf of Arizona Bites. I also freelance as a photographer/video editor/social media manager.
What is the lead time you need for content?
I’m pretty fast and efficient, depending on the event or project, I can get back to you in a day. Depending on my schedule for food events, I usually only need a 48 hour heads up.
What is the best way to reach you?
