We’re back this month with another meet the team feature! For March, get to know all about our Junior Account Manager – Cathy.

How long have you been at Prohibition? I started in May 2021 – so coming up to 10 months, it’s flown by!

What do you love most about your job? I love the fast pace of working at a busy agency. I also love the fact that PR and marketing is constantly evolving, so there’s always new things to learn. You never really reach the end of the road with developing, which excites me! I’m generally quite a ‘busy’ person so I enjoy the past pace of agency life and the variety of clients and sectors we get to work with – every hour of the day is different.

Tell us a bit about your journey to working at Prohibition. I did a journalism degree at Uni in Leeds and alongside my course, I did an internship in the PR team at a full-service marketing agency. I loved the role and PR in general, and was offered a full-time job when I graduated. I learnt the basics of traditional PR and then went on to work at a more digital/SEO type agency for a while, before finding a middle ground at Prohibition. I actually interviewed at Prohibition a couple of years before I joined – I got a great feel for the team but the role and timing wasn’t quite right. So when the opportunity came around again last year, it was a no brainer!

What’s your top tip for someone looking to get into the PR industry? As creepy as it might sound, try to find someone that’s amazing at their job and shadow them as much as you can. The best PRs have learnt everything they know from other people, so this is definitely a good way to get ahead of the game. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and volunteer for anything and everything, to help you get as much experience as possible. Also don’t complain about the mundane tasks, as this is essential (and always will be) to nailing the role.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? Instagram every day. I think it’s adapted well over the years to the needs of users, introducing aspects like the Pinterest-style saving boards, video content and shopping features. It’s kept on top of trends to keep up with other platforms. I’m also quite a visual person so find it easiest to use. I can find myself on it for hours for both work and personal reasons.

What do you love most about working/living up North? The people and the countryside!

What three things could you not live without? Caffeine, chocolate and my family (including my dog, Monty).

Give us your favourite quote. “It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey”

If you could switch places with any celeb for the day – who would it be and why? Probably someone controversial like The Queen – purely out of intrigue to see what actually goes on in the royal family! Second (and very different) option would be Gemma Collins – I’m obsessed with her.

What’s something you’re secretly (or not so secretly!) really good at/passionate about outside of work? I love hiking (and just generally exploring) in the countryside – I don’t need any persuasion to get out in the fresh air, no matter the weather. I also love cooking!
