WHEN THE JOURNALIST CRIES

Maxim Behar

VILNIUS, February 18 - There is one detail that I now avoid in the cozy Warsaw apartment, without any danger from the tank. This is the fact that from the first moments I spent in Vilnius, I cried. An unusual and difficult feeling to explain. I didn't understand why all this was. LIFE IN THE "AQUARIUM"

Maxim Behar

VILNIUS, February 11 - “Raimondas, I don't have tickets. Let's go on foot," I told my new acquaintance, without blinking, as if I were on near the ‘Russian monument’ in Sofia and had to go to the Pliska Hotel, just 30 minutes away. - You're crazy! You heard on the radio that there would probably be a curfew. If they shoot, then what would you explain… And what tickets are you talking about, didn't you hear this is war?

THE SPECIAL ENVOY OF DUMA NEWSPAPER REPORTS FROM VILNIUS

Maxim Behar

VILNIUS, January 13 - At first glance, everything in Vilnius seems calm. At least for now, the streets seem full of people, which is unusual for the cold weather and thick snow. Parliament is not accepting any accreditations for journalists, so I cannot report the location from which I am transmitting. The Parliament building is now surrounded by tens of thousands of Lithuanians, but there is no telling what they will do when the curfew comes in.

THE STARS RISE AFTER MIDNIGHT

Maxim Behar

VILNIUS, February 04 - When I left for Vilnius, everything was calm. Even suspiciously calm. It was already known that there was a National Salvation Committee. However, no one knew who the members were. And to this day, no one knows. Only everyone guesses. The characteristic midnight mist had spread over Warsaw. It was well past midnight on January 13, and when, already in the car, I reached for the ice button on the radio, a terribly long and sad song by Pink Floyd exploded.

CALM DAY IN LITHUANIA

VILNIUS, January 19 - As of today, the clouds of tension in Vilnius seem to have been cleared. Not a single night military patrol, disorders, nor a tank or armored personnel carrier on the streets was seen last night. Although several thousand people remained on duty, guarding near the Parliament, a large part of the citizens went for a walk today, the shops, the cafes and the restaurants were filled with people.
