5 Summer Survival Tips for Solo PR Pros

Jul 5, 2016 | Living the Life

Hello Summer! Hot temperatures and long days result in a slower pace for most businesses, and that includes Solo PR Pros. In this post, we share our top tips on using the natural slowdown of the season to race ahead in your business. Read on for our Top 5 summer survival tips and resources!

Survival Tip #1: Ramp up your business development. This is a perfect time to accelerate your business development efforts and fill your pipeline. Use the season to identify ideal new prospects and nurture relationships.  Be creative and try different approaches to business development. Shake up your normal routine by testing different approaches. If you rely on in-person networking, digital inbound marketing or cold calling.  You can even be creative in your face-to-face meetings. Take advantage of the nice weather and meet a prospect for golf, tennis or lunch at an outdoor cafe.

Survival Tip #2: Work on the way you work. Use the dog days of summer to improve how you work. Audit your day-to-day routine and identify areas that can be eliminated or streamlined. Is your workflow costing you productivity? Are there processes that feel clunky or redundant? Take time to test drive new methods or resources and see if they fit with your work style.

Survival Tip #3: Explore new things. Use the summer season to explore new things. We all have an “if only I had time” list of things we would love to try or learn. Whether you have been yearning to learn snapchat, or want to take a watercolor class, now is the time to go for it. With fewer demands on your time, give yourself permission to have fun by exploring something new. You may uncover a new passion or skill that you can implement into your business.

Survival Tip #4: Read. Reading is a fantastic tool for professional development but it can also inspire and recharge your creativity.  Mix up your reading list this summer by adding in different genres. Take a break from business reading and read a biography, historical novel or a breezy beach book. Below are a few recommendations from Solo PR Pro Premium members.

Summer Survival Tip #5: Recharge. Take some time to recharge this summer. Whether you take a full vacation, or a few long weekends, build in some time to relax and recharge. Many independent pros fail to take time off, and use slowdowns to work harder! Give yourself a break this summer. You will thank yourself in the fall when the whole world ramps up to finish off the year.

  1. Just what I needed! I’ve felt frustrated by MIA clients who can’t be bothered to show up for long scheduled summer strategy meetings or provide any input on initiatives. These ideas will help me be more productive even when my clients are not cooperative.

  2. Love #2. I think so often we’re in the weeds and we forget to think about whether we’re weeding wisely. 🙂 And you know I’m working in #1!

  3. Thanks Daria! So glad that you found this one useful. We all need those gentle reminders, don’t we?

  4. So glad it helped Gayle! The best antidote to things not going as planned is to work on our business, it can turn around our attitudes and our results! Good luck!
