MuckRack analyzed the current responsibilities of public relations professionals and expectations for the upcoming business year. 

A survey of 193 professionals in marketing and communication leadership roles was conducted from Sept. 7 – Oct. 26, 2023. 

Key findings include:

1.) 68% of all leaders surveyed said their role is a mix of marketing and communication.
2.) 62% of communication leaders said they expect their budget to stay the same, followed by 30% who expect their budgets to increase, and 8% who expect their budgets to decrease.
3.) Top areas communication leaders expect to increase their investments in include media relations (68%), social media/influencer marketing (57%), and employee communication/employer branding (19%). 
4.) 56% of respondents said their marketing and communication teams were very aligned, followed by 42% who said they were somewhat aligned, and 2% who said they were not aligned at all.
