May 9th: Real problems, real-time solutions

At the beginning of this year, we partnered with PR Week to conduct a study of hundreds of PR and communications professionals about some of the key aspects of corporate reputation in 2022.

We asked our participants about misinformation, C-suite interest in reputation, the ability to monitor the spread of news across the web, and much more besides.

We found that 66% believed that execs care more about reputation now than they did in the past, that more than 80% were worried about misinformation in some capacity, and that 88% saw room for improvement in how they measure stories spreading on social media.

May 10th: 2022 Pulitzer Prize winners

On Monday afternoon the 2022 Pulitzer Prize winners were announced from Columbia University, and the 106th annual awards ceremony has captured media attention.

Even with 3.7k articles written about the various winners, there were over 400 stories published about The Washington Post’s Pulitzer win for its coverage of the Jan 6th attack on the capitol.

The top story about its win came from the Washington Post itself, earning more than 10.3k engagements.

Although the Washington Post’s win was the most popular narrative, the most engaged individual story overall was actually from the Indian publisher Lallan Top and was about four Indian photographers who were awarded a Pulitzer (13.3k).

May 11th: The Target unionization push hasn’t captured public interest yet

Yesterday, it was widely reported that Target workers would be joining the union push that has seen a number of workforces vote to join unions in the past year.

While it has been written about almost 200 times in just a day, it hasn’t yet captured the public interest in quite the same way, with only about 8k engagements to the news so far.

The vast majority of this came to one story in The New Republic, which had almost 6k engagements on its own. That is not to say that public interest will not pick up amidst ongoing efforts, just that it has not happened yet in the way it did for other companies such as Starbucks and Amazon.
