Donald Trump’s Leadership Skills – in His Own Words

Smug doesn’t even come close

The type of leader you are depends on your character. More specifically, there are certain definable qualities for being a great leader, as discussed in some insightful books on leadership.

Here’s my take on 20 of them and the quotes below each are straight from the horse’s mouth, as it were.

So how does US Presidential candidate Donald Trump stack up against these qualities?

1. Know how to negotiate.

On exporting goods to China: “Listen you m—–f——, we’re going to tax you 25 percent!”

I’m gonna say, ‘Mexico, this is not going to continue, you’re going to pay for that wall,’ and they will pay for the wall.

2. Value people for their characters, not their looks.

You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.

3. Know reality is not what you project onto it.

People love me. And you know what, I have been very successful. Everybody loves me.

All of the women on The Apprentice flirted with me – consciously or unconsciously. That’s to be expected.

4. Know your limits.

The point is that you can’t be too greedy.

5. Know that honesty is the best policy.

I look forward to the debate […] & it is certainly my intention to be very nice & highly respectful of the other candidates.

And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building [World Trade Center] was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering. So something’s going on. We’ve got to find out what it is.

6. Know that talking about yourself in the third person is … a no-no.

Love him or hate him, Trump is a man who is certain about what he wants and sets out to get it, no holds barred. Women find his power almost as much of a turn-on as his money.

7. Know good from bad.

One of the key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace, good people don’t go into government.

8. Know about global issues.

The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.

9. Know how to generalise about an entire group of people.

The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yamakas every day.

10. Know how to generalise about an entire nation of people.

When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. … And some, I assume, are good people.

 11. Know religion.

I’m calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.

On Ghazala Khan at DNC 2016, the mother of Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who died in Baghdad in 2004:

His wife … if you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me. But a plenty of people have written that. She was extremely quiet, and it looked like she had nothing to say. A lot of people have said that.

12. Know how to speak with respect about others.

Rosie [O’Donnell] is crude, rude, obnoxious and dumb – other than that I like her very much!

.@ariannahuff is unattractive both inside and out. I fully understand why her former husband left her for a man- he made a good decision.

While @BetteMidler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.

13. Know how to appreciate those who fought for your country.

He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK, I hate to tell you. [On John McCain]

Mr. Khan, who does not know me, viciously attacked me from the stage of the DNC and is now all over T.V. doing the same – Nice! [on Twitter]

14. Know that alternative energy sources are a good thing.

How many bald eagles did wind turbines kill today? They are an environmental & aesthetic disaster.

Let me tell you: the miners in West Virginia and Pennsylvania […] they’re going to start to work again, believe me.

15. Know that empathy goes a long way in understanding.

Maybe he should have been roughed up. It was absolutely disgusting what he was doing. [On a protestor for Black Lives Matter present and being beaten up at a Trump rally in Birmingham, Alabama.]

you ought to see the guy: ‘Uhh I don’t know what I said. I don’t remember!’ He’s going, ‘I don’t remember! Maybe that’s what I said. [While quoting The New York Times‘ journalist Serge Kovaleski, Trump jerked his arms and body and held his hands in a claw-like manner reminiscent of Kovaleski’s arthrogryposis disease’s symptom.]

16. Know never to be weirdly creepy or disgustingly gross.

I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.

My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.

You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes […] Blood coming out of her wherever. [On Megyn Kelly]

17. Know the pot must never call the kettle black.

Obama and his attack dogs have nothing but hate and anger in their hearts and spew it whenever possible.

18. Know compassion.

I don’t like losers.

Do you have any other leadership qualities you reckon I should include? Let me know and I’ll add them to this list.

19. Be consistent.

From 11 Aug 2016 article in The New York Times:

In an interview with CNBC, he acknowledged the possibility that he could lose, but insisted that he would stick with his unorthodox campaign style.

At the end, it’s either going to work or I’m going to, you know, I’m going to have a very, very nice long vacation
20. Know that violent personal attacks are never appropriate.
I’d like to punch him in the face [At one of his rallies, about a protestor]

You know what, I wanted to hit a couple of those speakers so hard. I would have hit them — no, no — I was gonna hit them. I was all set. […] I was gonna hit one guy in particular, a very little guy. I was gonna hit this guy so hard, his head would spin. [At a news conference, referring to Michael Bloomberg]

Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment. If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people—maybe there is, I don’t know. But—but I’ll tell you what. That will be a horrible day. [At one of his rallies]
