Several of our members chimed in to share what they are most proud of achieving in their business in 2021.

  • Rachel Sutherland Communications took home a Crown Award in Integrated Communications in the Charlotte PRSA QC PR Awards. The agency beat Atrium Health and another smaller comms firm to take top honors in the category for their work on a three-month campaign for Pat's Place Child Advocacy Center.
  • Bernadette Adams Davis, APR won the Norm Teich Award as part of PRSA Dallas' Pegasus Award.
  • Jennifer Hudson, president of ThinkBeyond Public Relations, shared a few meaningful accomplishments from the year: helped a failing client pivot after losing members, hired support, led two workshops for PRSA, mentored CEOs through Radical Partners and shared her story for the first time ever about the crash of AA Flight 965 on the Lead Balloon podcast. She says, “I'm most proud of the work I did with a client in the area of DE&I. It's heartwarming, soul work.”
  • Founder & managing partner of Chirp John Walker was inducted into PRSA Georgia's prestigious Order of the Phoenix.
  • Phyllis Weiss of Weiss Communications, Inc. promoted the independent feature film, The 12 Lives of Sissy Carlyle, that resulted in 89 articles with a $3.66 million average monetary value, according to Muck Rack. It was featured on CNET, among other media outlets, as one of the top 22 films to stream on Amazon Prime.
  • Lynn Harris Medcalf, MA, APR with her client Adrenaline was recognized by PRSA Georgia for exceptional work in the program category with a Phoenix Award for their Content Marketing entry “Believe in Banking: Supporting an Essential Sector.” They also took home Awards of Excellence in the project categories New Digital Platform and Podcast for Believe in Banking. Lynn also won an award from the PRSA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter for Standout Tactic of the Year – Believe in Banking: Platform with a Purpose” on behalf of Adrenaline.
  • Jodi Echakowitz of Boulevard Public Relations celebrated 20 years in business in July! When she started her business in the summer of 2001, she was pregnant, had just been laid off following the dot-com crash, and had no idea what the future would hold. Today, her virtual team has grown to 15 (all independent PR pros), including several she met through this group. All her clients are tech startups, growth companies, or VC firms—and each of them came to her through referral. Five years ago Jodi added ‘angel investor' to her bio and has since invested in eight women-founded tech startups.
  • Laura Frnka-Davis' agency LFD Communications is on track to have its best year yet financially and continues to land clients. In 2021, they began working with Teach for America Houston and won a silver Excalibur Award from the PRSA Houston Chapter for integrated communications for providing PR support re: the opening of Houston Botanic Garden. The agency also supported the debut of Lightscape, an internationally acclaimed holiday light show at the Houston Botanic Garden that has generated more than 100 placements.
  • Kami Watson Huyse appeared on Good Morning America on Oct. 29. Kami spoke about how to protect yourself from home invasions. Check out a brief clip on Kami's Facebook page.
  • Fran Stephenson, APR (Step In Communication) and Amy Gray, APR (Gray Public Relations) teamed up with a San Antonio-based creative agency on a multi-year statewide public education campaign for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The state’s litter prevention campaign, Nobody Trashes Tennessee, has earned extensive media coverage — surpassing annual goals in the first three months — and has set new records for engagement with their social media channels. The creative campaign features actual talking trash delivering litter facts and fun in surprising settings and interviewing notable humans from around the state.
  • PR industry leader and president of RENEWPR Ben Finzel was inducted into the Public Relations Society of America’s National Capital Chapter (PRSA NCC) National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame.
  • Impact Players' Stu Opperman, APR won a PRSA Wizard Award in the “Communicator” category from the organization’s Greater Fort Lauderdale chapter and accepted the nomination to be the professional group’s president for 2022. Additionally, Impact Players continued to provide strategic counsel and results to its client roster and enjoyed another year without any accounts lost.
  • W. Patrick McSweeney, APR, Fellow PRSA, Strategic Communications & Reputation Management and founder of McSweeney Public Relations LLC received the Dorothy Thomas Black Award. The award is the highest honor given to a member of the PRSA Southeastern Wisconsin chapter. Patrick will serve as the chair-elect next year for PRSA's Midwest District and co-vice chair for PRSA's national D & I Committee.
  • Past president of IPA JW Arnold was awarded the Inaugural Lifetime Indie Award by PRSA IPA.
  • Jessica Lawlor & Company celebrated five years in business in 2021. Jessica Lawlor (also the managing editor for Solo PR Pro) shared top lessons learned in a Twitter thread
  • Nova Communications' Jennifer Donovan moved from San Francisco to Lisbon, Portugal. She was initially concerned with how clients would react with her being that far away and not able to spend time in person, but they were open to testing it out. She kept all her clients and even added two more! She says, “It's been an interesting time and it's shown me that it really doesn't matter where you are or what specific times you work, you CAN deliver great client service.” Jennifer was happy and surprised to see that 2021 was her best year in business financially since opening in 2013.

Congratulations to all! Let's continue to support and celebrate one another's accomplishments as we move into 2022.
