Popular Social Media Trends of 2021

We’re halfway through 2021 and as the second quarter comes to a close, it’s a good idea to review your social media channels and make any adjustments to current campaigns.

One way you can do this is by evaluating which social media trends make sense for your brand and how likely is the trend going to stay “trendy.” Here are several social media trends that will help your brand gain more visibility:

  1. Giveaways

Micro-influencers are able to connect better with their audience on a more personal level. This incentivizes followers to want to build a relationship with influencers, thus creating more consumer trust. Even for macro-influencers, giveaways are a chance to gain new fans by partnering up with other brands and encouraging people to share their posts to gain more visibility.

  1. Scavenger Hunts

Or treasure hunts or geocaching. When physical distancing was mandatory and businesses were shut-down, companies had to improvise by finding new ways to keep their customers. Creating a scavenger hunt is a fun way to get consumers more involved with a brand and are more likely to share on social media.

  1. Video

Both Millennials and Gen Z generations have an affinity for consuming video content whether it is on Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram or YouTube. All major social media platforms now prioritize video content and encourage you to post live videos. Take advantage of this by going live and filming a behind the scenes or answering questions live to connect more with your followers.

  1. Audio

Many people regularly listen to podcasts. This is another avenue for brands, especially in niche markets, to share more accessible content and gain more visibility. Not only are podcasts wildly popular, apps like Clubhouse and Twitter have created space to facilitate more of these conversations. Here at HMA, we created the Copper State of Mind (CSOM) podcast earlier this year to connect with executives and marketing communications professionals to discuss the challenges, strategies and effectiveness of marketing and PR. If you haven’t already checked it out, you can listen to the newest episode of CSOM here.

Reviewing your social media and making adjustments to your strategy will surely give your brand more visibility. As long as your content stays true and authentic to the brand, incorporating these trends into your social media strategy will result in more conversions.
