We’re back this month with another meet the team feature. For May, get to know all about our gym going, coffee addict Account Executive, Lauren!

How long have you been at Prohibition? Just over 6 months now!

What do you love most about your job? I love the people I work with – they completely make the job and keep you moving when the work gets demanding. It’s a great feeling having a solid team around you and knowing that someone is always on hand to help!

Tell us a bit about your journey to working at Prohibition. I graduated mid-2020 in the height of the pandemic which really flipped my post-graduation plans upside down! I worked where I could, getting marketing experience and putting my degree to use, while taking time to travel with my family as the world began to open up before really looking for a position I could throw myself into – this is where Prohibition came in! When the opportunity arose, I jumped at it and haven’t looked back since.

What’s your top tip for someone looking to get into the PR industry? Be prepared for lots of learning and feedback! The first few months are tough and really are make or break, you either take the feedback in your stride and do something about it or fall behind, work through it and it will pay off!

What’s your favourite social media platform and why? It’s Twitter for me, the candid and open nature of conversations on the platform makes it a lot more genuine than the perfection of more visual platforms like Instagram. For brands, this allows them to add more humour and show their human side in connecting with their audiences and other brands – Aldi do this really well!

What do you love most about working/living up North? Although still fast-paced, it’s easier and encouraged to fully switch off after work in the North which really helps with avoiding burnout! I grew up in Leeds and went to Newcastle University so I’m a dedicated northerner – the social side is also great, with an office in Leeds City Centre there’s always opportunity for spontaneous after-work drinks…

What three things could you not live without? Coffee, the gym, and my phone – I’m self-aware enough to know this makes me sound like a complete stereotypical Gen Z but it’s the truth! Coffee for work, the gym for my head and health, and my phone for organising my social life with my family and friends – all the essentials. If I could have more, I would add my family, my car, and holidays haha.

Give us your favourite quote.

“Work smarter, not harder” – it speaks for itself, taking a second to think about how to approach a task can often save you a lot of fuss!

If you could switch places with any celeb for the day – who would it be and why? It would have to be Tammy Hembrow – I’d love to see how life is in Australia as a successful CEO/fitness guru – she’s lived so many lives already it’s astounding.

What’s something you’re secretly (or not so secretly!) really good at/passionate about outside of work? I’m a real gym addict which began with building up my strength after training in gymnastics since I was very young and going on to secure my gymnastics coaching qualification at 16 (my first job!). I considered going down the personal trainer route for a while but for the minute, I’ll stick to building up that knowledge to help my own training!
