Last month, I finally got a chance to meet Taylor Transtrum, a writer for Modern Luxury Scottsdale. Her story is a great one – and she has all sorts of story needs. Take a look!

So Taylor, tell us a little about yourself!

How did you come to join Modern Luxury Scottsdale?

I started out as an editorial intern there during my junior year of college. After my internship ended, they asked me to stay on as a writer and, of course, I said yes!

Any prior work in the media?

A bit. Before becoming part of the “ModLux” family I did a few stories for The Arizona Republic. I’ve also done some writing for a couple of school publications including The State Press at ASU and Blending Magazine. Prior to switching my major to journalism, I was a “fashion guru” for College Fashionista and wrote weekly street-style articles focusing on college fashion trends. I also used to run my own fashion blog, which is what originally got me hooked on writing.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small suburban city in Idaho and moved to Arizona for college. Although my home state will always have a special place in my heart, I’m an Arizona convert and plan to stay here after I graduate from ASU Walter Cronkite this May.

Favorite type of music?

I like such a vast and odd mix of music, but if I had to choose just one genre, I would say that I primarily listen to indie.

Favorite color?

Black or pastel purple.

Favorite local haunts?

I love working on stories and doing interviews at Sip Coffee House in Old Town. Another remote office favorite of mine is Maverick Coffee. I adore Phoenix Market Cafe in downtown Phoenix and frequently stop in there for a bite to eat after class. For vintage shopping, I love to hit up the Melrose District and on the weekends you’ll find me at my favorite neighborhood watering hole, Casey Moore’s.

Favorite place to visit?

Florence, Italy! I studied abroad there my sophomore year of college and it will always have a special place in my heart.

Favorite food?

This is a hard one for me as I’m a pretty adventurous eater… but I would have to say Italian food is always a good choice.

Least favorite food?

Brussel sprouts.

Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?

  1. I’ve had pink, blue, silver and purple hair. Currently, it’s the latter.
  2. I used to be afraid of tattoos but now I have four!
  3. I’ve always had at least one dog (often times, many) in my life and I don’t foresee that ever changing.

What types of stories are you looking for?

I’m always on the hunt for interesting luxury and lifestyle stories!
