Celebrating our recent highlights

As the year comes to a close, the team at Action takes a look back at 2019 to relive some of our clients’ highlights.  We hope you enjoy our end-of-year recap!

January

We kicked off the New Year with a tongue-in-cheek ‘Not So Dry January’ advertising campaign for Everyone Active. Our series of multi-functional images poked fun at the idea of a different type of dry January showing people getting a sweat on, taking to the pool and meeting at the (weights) bar. Hugely successful, it drove mass awareness and footfall to the centres and gave Everyone Active a fresh, disruptive tone of voice at a key sales period.

We literally hung out at London’s largest playground – The Yard at Third Space Canary Wharf – to create and capture some stunning content for our clients Auster and EXF.  Showing off their suspension training kit and superb flooring respectively, heads turned as our photographer got to work.

We started our new relationship in style with premium boutique barre collective, Barrecore, supporting the launch of its tenth London studio in Islington. We invited top tier London press to attend the wonderful launch party and try the workout with founder and celebrity trainer Niki Rein before raising a glass to the gorgeous new studio on Upper Street.

Our corporate fitness sales specialist client, Gympass, successfully secured a three-year extension to its deal with premium fitness operator, Bannatyne, which saw all 72 clubs become available to Gympass members. To mark this partnership, we developed, directed and filmed a video showcasing the successful partnership though the words of Bannatyne National Operations Manager Adrian Worsley and Senior Gympass Director and Head of Partnerships, Eamon Lloyd.

Bringing brands together is our speciality! Here we celebrated the collaboration between our clients, Everyone Active and MoreYoga, by creating an ‘Ascent & Asana’ event, where people were invited to Westway Sports & Fitness centre to enjoy an hour of wall climbing followed by an hour of yoga. Timed to fall in Mental Health Awareness Week, it gained coverage in Time Out and created such high demand we repeated the event in June.

We were delighted to help our spinal cord rehabilitation client, Neurokinex, host Bristol’s inaugural Sport4All inclusive family sports day at the Centre for Sport, UWE Bristol on June 2. It successfully engaged the local community in a range of activities for youngsters and adults living with a disability. Over 100 people attended, including families with youngsters and teenagers seeking physical activity and social opportunities with local providers. Neurokinex client and Team GB Paralympian, Kylie Grimes, who has been selected for the Team GB Wheelchair Rugby squad for Tokyo 2020, joined in and gave encouragement to visitors. ITV West Country reported on the day which brokered valuable partnerships for local families.

Following the huge success in 2018 of  Gosh! Food’s inaugural Kindness Café, we returned in 2019 with a bigger and better stand and activation. Keeping the motto, Kindness is Currency, we invited members of the public in London and Brighton to visit the pop-up Kindness Café and pledge an act of kindness in exchange for a free plant-based lunch from Gosh! The events were heart-warming, life-affirming and packed out!

We were delighted to spend a day in the company of the legendary T’Pau singer, Carol Decker, who is trialling the brand new Marodyne LiV  device that is designed to help people manage osteoporosis.  Carol is dynamic and great fun and we enjoyed plenty of laughs as we filmed and photographed her using the device and giving interviews.

Action Consultancy worked with Everyone Active to identify under-utilised areas of its London centres which could be used to drive both additional revenue and improve the quality and breadth of fitness provision for its members. In September, as a direct result of our work, a contract was signed with the first F45 franchisee to open a studio within Little Venice Leisure Centre.

Many of our clients support charity initiatives, none more so than MoreYoga. In October, they partnered with the charity CoppaFeel! to host Bra-Less Yoga sessions to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We were delighted to see such a warm response from members of the public and all proceeds of these partnership sessions went to the charity.

This month saw the big leisure industry party that is the National Fitness Awards. Always a great night out, this year’s event marked the 10th Anniversary of the Awards so celebration was in the air.  We couldn’t have been happier to hear Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre named as Local Authority Gym of the Year. Having worked closely with them on their entry and judge’s visit, we know they fully deserve this accolade.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a lovely charity card. Our amazing client Neurokinex has wowed us with this charming card created by young client Ralph Sunderland, 2. Told he would never sit, crawl or stand, Ralph’s parents defied the doctors and took him to Neurokinex Kids (which they heard about on the BBC London News piece that we generated). Ralph is now sitting, crawling and engaging in therapy with supported standing and walking exercises. His mum calls the Neurokinex team his ‘Christmas Angels’.  We couldn’t agree more.
