The End of Spell Check?

spell checkSpell check has provided a much-needed crutch for many adults who are not – or have never been — great spellers.
Spelling is emphasized in schools through weekly spelling tests and spelling bees for the excellent spellers.  It’s so important to us that the winners of statewide and national spelling bees are shown on newscasts, verbalizing their winning word.  And ESPN even shows the national spelling bee finals as a stand-alone program.
But once kids get out of elementary school, it becomes a lost priority.  (After all, we DO have spell check if we choose to use it.)
Until now.
The Asian American Journalists Association of Arizona is sponsoring an adult spelling be.  It will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Changing Hands bookstore at 300 W. Camelback in Phoenix.  Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bee starts at 6:30 p.m.
Think you want to give it a shot?  The entry fee for spellers is $10. Shoot an email to aajaaz@gmail.com  to sign up.
Non-competitors are also welcome to come and watch all the letter-reciting action.  Admission is a suggested donation of $10. Proceeds benefit scholarships for the Asian American Journalists Association of Arizona.  For additional information or to RSVP, follow this link.
