T-Swift Takes a Stand

T-SwiftIf you’re a fellow Swiftie, then I’m sure you’ve heard the pop goddess has been dealing with some booty-groping nonsense this month. In case you missed it, here’s the situation: a snapshot was taken of Taylor Swift with former radio DJ, David Mueller, at a 2013 meet-and-greet. In the picture, Mueller’s hand is parked dangerously low on Swift’s behind (underneath her skirt). Not cool. What’s even more uncool? Mueller decided to file a $3 million lawsuit AGAINST Swift two years later, denying her sexual assault allegations and blaming her for his ruined career (Mueller was fired from KYGO radio station in 2013 after Swift’s manager informed the DJ’s employer of the incident).
Mueller’s absurd litigation didn’t faze Swift one bit. After all, she’s known for putting mean boys in their place. Swift took this as an opportunity to make a statement on behalf of sexual assault victims everywhere. Do not be silenced.
Swift responded to the $3 million lawsuit with a symbolic $1 countersuit for sexual assault and battery, and won.  Her attorney, Douglas Baldridge, called the amount “a single symbolic dollar, the value of which is immeasurable to all women in this situation.” So basically Mueller’s plan to save face and make millions totally backfired, and on top of that he’s out $1.
Swift sat alongside family in court last week before testifying on her own behalf against Mueller.  Both the photographer who took the photo and Swift’s bodyguard testified as eye-witnesses in support of the singer. On Monday, a Denver jury delivered a unanimous verdict charging David Mueller with sexual assault and battery…poor guy didn’t stand a chance.
In his closing argument, Swift’s lawyer questioned the jury, “Will aggressors like David Mueller be allowed to victimize the victim? Is the victimization going to result in that guy getting a payday?”
NOT TODAY!T-Swift
As for why Swift didn’t want to sue Mueller for more than $1?  Taylor’s attorney stated “She has no desire to bankrupt Mueller. She wants the countersuit to be an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.”
And just in case you’re still not convinced of her awesomeness;
After the guilty verdict was returned, Swift made a statement, “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”
Whether it’s behind a mic or in the courtroom, Taylor emphasizes the importance of sticking up for oneself. She practices what she preaches, and whether you jam to T-Swift on  a regular basis or classic rock is more your thing, I think we can all agree she’s a strong, admirable woman who took a stand for what’s right! #TeamSwift
