#MediaMonday – George Habib Obi

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from George Habib Obi, night-side executive producer at FOX 10. He helps keep the evenings running, managing content and personnel for the evening shows.

George, time to share!

I was born and raised in Northern California, before moving to Reno midway through high school. I was exposed to the news business at an early age thanks to family friends, but it was during high school when I became editor of my school newspaper and became enamored with journalism. During my early years in college, I interned at several television (KCRA) and radio (KSFM, KMEL, KPOO) stations before moving on to film school at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. That is where I focused primarily on photography and film with hopes of traveling the world to create unique and inspiring documentaries. But my skills as an editor eventually led me to Los Angeles where I worked behind the scenes on a number of independent films and commercial projects. In the late ‘90s I spent more than two years in Seattle, working for Loudeye Technologies, a digital encoding company that went public on the Nasdaq in 2000.

It was my hunger for news that eventually pushed me back into television and radio. I spent four years in Reno as a photojournalist/reporter by day and a radio reporter/anchor/producer by night, covering everything from major snowstorms to devastating wildfires. In 2005, I moved to Phoenix to be KFYI’s evening anchor/reporter, before ultimately returning to television to become a writer/producer for FOX 10.
Looking back, it’s hard to fathom that I’ve been in the news business for over 20+ years

When I’m not stuck in front of a computer or Tweetdeck, you can find me spending time with my wife and two daughters. You will most likely find me in my garden or in front of a television cheering for my hometown San Francisco Giants and 49ers. And since my parents both grew up in Florida, I was raised in a household that worshiped the Florida Gators. Even though I never attended the school, it’s safe to say that I bleed orange & blue! #GoGators!

Interesting tidbit about me:
I am a hip-hop junkie, having grown up in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s during the golden era of the genre. In the mid-90s, my friends and I started BayRoot Productions, a collaborative of beat makers and emcees. Now 23 years later, BayRoot is still making hits!
