#MediaMonday – Clay Lambert

HMA’s clients often require us to do work in many different parts of the country.  Today’s #MediaMonday features Clay Lambert who is the editorial director for Coastside News Group Inc., which publishes the Half Moon Bay Review and Pacifica Tribune, in San Mateo County, Calif.

So, Clay time to share!

Tell us how you got your start in journalism?

Well, like most journalists of my vintage, I’m a child of Watergate. Inspired by Woodward and Bernstein, I studied journalism at Colorado State University, where I was the editor of the Rocky Mountain Collegian student newspaper.

Tell us how you came to start working in the media scene?

After college, I followed a girl to Georgia, where I worked for a couple newspapers, working my way up through the ranks of copy editor, government reporter, sports reporter and finally a columnist of sorts.

Where did you grow up?

The suburbs of Los Angeles and Denver.

Where do you live now?

I live in Palo Alto and without a doubt my favorite thing is the diversity of the people. I also really appreciate the influence of world-class universities like Stanford and Cal.

Favorite type of music?

All of them. I have about 5,000 vinyl albums and listen to something different every day.

Favorite color?

Let’s say royal blue.

Three things that readers would be surprised to know about you.

I would like to have enough money to collect watches, I like to cook and I survived a plane crash.

Do you take pitches? If so, any guidelines?

I would say only rarely. For that reason, we don’t have guidelines per se, but we are entirely locally focused. Any pitch must have a real local approach.

What is the lead time you need for content or pitches?

We have a coastal lifestyle magazine that may be the best bet for a pitch; we’d had to know about something six weeks in advance of editorial deadlines. So, for instance, if you had an idea for February, I would need to hear about it in December.

What is the best way to reach you?
