Clear the Clutter, Clear the Mind

As I have always said, I am not exactly type A personality. I do not have perfect calendars outlining every hour of my day. I often need reminders when it comes to doctor appointments and you do not want to see my laundry basket. However, I am not exactly type B either. I am extremely punctual, I strive for perfection and often find myself stressed over the little things. I like to have a neat space around me, even though it never quite seems to happen. Therefore, I have since labeled myself type A-.
I have random files saved on my desktop, instead of tucked away in organized folders. I have stacks of paper on my desk (I am a paper person remember?) and my coffee cup hasn’t been washed since yesterday.
When I get home, I am welcomed by scattered toys, shoes and blankets. Dishes fill the sink, the hamper remains a steady mountain and I never seem to be able to find that darn remote.
And I can handle it… until I can’t.
Sometimes when I find myself on edge, super stressed and oddly irritated, I have to take a look at my surroundings.  After all, excess clutter is known to negatively impact your mood, concentration and overall mental health.
So what do you do?
Simply get started.
Throw away trash stuffed in the drawers, sort that laundry, start the dishwasher, recycle old papers, organize your desk, clear off your desktop and breathe! Oh, and don’t forget the backlog of emails, social media notifications and voicemails.
As Michael Cho stated, “Clutter, whether physical or digital, is something you’ll always have to deal with but it can be controlled. Finding ways to stear the streams of consumption in your favor will give you a sense of power and a freed mind, leaving room for you to create and experience life without constantly filling your cup to the top with someone else’s sugar.”
