4 culture changes all businesses need to make to boost PR

by | Dec 20, 2018 | Analysis, Public Relations

People nowadays want so much more than just job security. They want to be happy in the environment that they spend 40+ hours a week in. They want to love their job. Businesses are learning that catering to these desires isn’t a waste of time. It will instead boost employee retention, employee loyalty, and most importantly, employee productivity.

A business’ culture is critical. It is what will make or break your relationship with your employees, and what will allow you to attract and keep top talent, even if you cannot afford to give the highest salaries.

Why your business culture matters

Your company culture matters because your business is nothing without the employees who make all the magic happen. You cannot do it on your own, and similarly, you still cannot do it if your employees are unmotivated or don’t have the necessary skillset to help improve your company. By investing in a great company culture, you can simultaneously improve your workforce and attract great talent in the future.

How to improve your business’ culture

To improve your business’ culture, you will need to invest in your employees’ lives. You can do this in the following ways:

1. Boost the health of your office

Add plenty of plant life, boost the natural light, and otherwise improve the office environment as much as you can so that your employees can stay healthy—both physically and mentally. In the break room, this will mean having a comfortable place to sit and all the appliances they need to prepare healthy meals they brought from home.

2. Help your employees invest in their futures

You can do so much to help them invest in their futures that go beyond your legal requirements. For example, you can offer them the ability to invest in your own company, or you can give them essential retirement information that will help them boost your contributions on their own. Let them know about LIRP or life insurance retirement plans, and they will then have the tools to improve their financial stability and retirement outlook on their own. An employee who is positive about their future is one that will work more productively and with less stress.

3. Provide a great break room

Try to work through your lunch, and you will only be plagued with mental fatigue. Nothing productive will happen, and stress will mount. Build a great break room, however, and insist your employees take their lunch no matter what and you can help them stay healthy and motivated throughout the day.

4. Add useful benefits and perks

There are many budget-friendly benefits that you can offer that will make all the difference to your employees. A great break room and work environment that puts their health and wellbeing as its priority is a good start, but you can do so much more. Partner with a local gym to get a discount for your employees, for example. Or be flexible with hours one day a week.

How to promote your company culture

Finally, you need to advertise yourself. A great company culture boosts employee performance, yes, but it can also be a massive boost to your PR and employee recruitment. Just take a look at these companies that have great company cultures themselves, and see how successful they are. Advertise your culture through different channels, from recruitment pages to social media, and you will be amazed at what talent will be interested.
