Baseball, Dogs and Apple Pie

Baseball teams are notorious for coming up with creative, interactive promotions.  Here are a couple of examples.

Back when fans were allowed at ball parks, the Arizona Diamondbacks were among the teams who held “Bark in the Park,” allowing people to purchase tickets for their dogs to attend a Sunday afternoon game.  I’m guessing if you asked, the owners would tell you how much their dog enjoyed the game.

If the D-Backs score five runs more in a game, the next day Taco Bell offers up three free tacos with the purchase of a soft drink.  On top of that, if a D-Backs’ player hits a homerun, the next day Jack in the Box serves up a free Jumbo Jack with the purchase of a soft drink.

I recently saw a promotion in San Diego in which the pets of Padres fans win.  If the Padres pitchers combine for nine strikeouts, noted by a “K,” the K-9 Promotion kicks in.  When the Padres strike out nine or more batters in a game, all Padres fans can visit participating Petco locations in the San Diego area the next day and receive a free pound of dog treats with Pals Rewards.  How perfect is that for a team that plays its home games at Petco Park?

It’s been said that “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”  In San Diego, Fido can play a significant role in that!
