What are some successful marketing tactics amid COVID-19?

On a recent stroll through downtown Phoenix to grab lunch for carry-out, I experienced how our local businesses and organizations are using innovative marketing techniques to attract customers.

Under normal circumstances, you might find a few banners promoting a new product or promotion, perhaps a person standing on the corner spinning signs. According to a new study from CMO Reports, consumers would rather interact with digital marketing tactics as opposed to face-to-face marketing.

These digital marketing tactics are not new but are now more important in the eyes of the consumer.  The survey found that some of the most successful tactics are:

  1. Innovation

On my walk I was asked to sign a petition about healthcare. Instead of using a pen and clipboard, I was told to scan a QR code which pulled up the petition on my phone. I have heard restaurants are doing the same thing to their menus. Consider the new technologies you can use or create to help slow the spread.

  1. Social media and website

Due to the constant change of stay-at-home orders and curfews, my favorite local digs have been updating their social media accounts and website with all the important information I need to know to feel safe, including how to place an order, protocol for shopping inside the store as well as updated hours and promotions. These are not updated as quickly on other platforms like Yelp and Google so this is quite helpful. Be sure to post this information often so it is easily visible.

  1. Activism

Even with the financial hardships of the pandemic, consumers still care about the ethics of a company more than the price of the product. This is good news for those who have been helping others during these times and doing it authentically.

How else have you seen marketing tactics change in the last several months?
