Why it is important to stay connected

There is no doubt that networking is good for business. It gives you the chance to connect with prospects, interact with current clients in a more social setting and of course, reach out to former clients to re-engage.

But the kind of networking I enjoy most is the kind where the primary purpose isn’t necessarily business driven.  The reason to get together is more social in nature, yet it is safe to assume that “how’s business?” and “what can I do for you?” will still enter in the conversation.
Since the first of the year, I have had three such meetings.  And during two of those meetings, I ran into friends/colleagues and have set-up a time with two of them to get together.  These one-hour gabfests over coffee are some of the best parts of my week.  The time invested in nurturing these relationships is well worth it.

I’m not a big fan of making New Year’s resolutions.  I prefer to make goals.  So my goal for this year will be 3-5 meetings of this type per quarter.   Coffee’s on me.
