Creatures of Habit

As humans we are creatures of habits, some of us more than others. I like to think of myself as being spontaneous and eager to try new things, but I still have some habits or routines that I follow.

For an example, when I stumble across a new food (usually desserts) I will become obsessed if I really like it. Meaning I will eat that same item every day for as long as I can. Then what I like to call the “burnout” comes.  The burnout for me is when I notice the thing I am consuming isn’t as good anymore, it doesn’t taste the same and it can’t be blamed on it being an “off” batch. I usually will keep trying to eat it and then give up because the satisfaction never compares to before.

This “burnout” I feel about food is comparable to other aspects of your professional life. Through my school and internship experiences, I have been constantly told not to approach any situation the same. What has worked before may not fit the scope of needs for a new situation or client. It is easy to get stuck in certain routines and habits until we experience a burnout. It is always important to remember to try new strategies and techniques to keep that “spark.” Don’t ever settle for the status quo.
