Sweet Sixteen

Last week, I finished up my 16^th year at HMA Public Relations. Yes, I have at worked the same place since graduating college. Yes, it’s crazy. No, I can’t believe it either.
In honor of my “Sweet Sixteen,” I wanted to share 16 nuggets of wisdom I’ve learned from others during my time here:

1. On time is 10 minutes late.
2. Be curious.
3. Leading and managing are different things.
4. Write the way you talk.
5. Be yourself.
6. Be an active listener.
7. Surround yourself with people smarter than you.
8. Never wear white on camera.
9. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
10. Always help, if you can.
11. Be accountable; take responsibility for both actions and outcomes.
12. Don’t make work your entire life.
13. Write things down!
14. Don’t be afraid to fail.
15. Not everyone is going to like you.
16. Find your people; take care of them; let them take care of you.
