Lessons Learned While Networking

I attended a business luncheon recently that included some time to network with the other attendees. I met people from a wide range of industries. Not that uncommon for a networking event, but what stood out for me were the variety of connection points that happened during the conversations.

Networking events are great for using that all-important elevator pitch, learning about new industries, connecting with others in your field and opening the door for professional development opportunities.  Whatever your intention is with networking, there is always something to be learned.

In a networking setting, it is all about providing value.  Scott offered up some great suggestions.
You should be able to find at least one thing in common with each person you meet.  Perhaps you like the same author or maybe you both tried the newest restaurant in town.

Great connections begin with an authentic and thoughtful commonality.
