By the numbers: Black History Month sees more mentions on social media

In data collected by Sprinklr, 2021 saw a big upswing in uses of Black History Month hashtags and messages than in 2020.

The discussion of Black History Month this year has far surpassed social media mentions on platforms in 2020.

According to data provided by Sprinklr, a customer experience management platform, mentions of Black History Month were up 898% from 2020 and overall reach of Black History Month messages increased by more than 1,600%.

Top phrases that showed up in Black History Month messages this year include:

1.  Happy Black History Month
2.  Black-owned businesses
3.  Black Excellence
4.  Black Lives Matter
5.  Black Americans
6.  Black people

Top hashtags for Black History Month messages were:

  • #BlackHistoryMonth
  • #BHM
  • #BlackHistory
  • #BlackLivesMatter
  • #BLM

In looking at the trend of conversations about Black History Month over time, most of the chatter came at the beginning of the month, indicating that many were ready this year to share their message, but less prepared to sustain the conversation over time.
