Employee apps boost internal comms—and brand consistency

by | Oct 22, 2019 | Analysis, Public Relations

The right digital tool will not only boost your branding, but will have invaluable use among your employees if they have an employee app.  If you haven’t yet provided your employees with one, consider these benefits.

RPM

A couple of decades ago, “rpm” meant revolutions per minute to those in the auto industry. Today, it’s more commonly known as “repetitive quality marketing” which literally means what it stands for. Throughout history, there have been various iterations of a saying that usually begins with the words, “If I told you once…”

If you’ve employed frequent mailers and/or emails to customers with success, you know the power of repetitive communications.  In direct sales, there’s a belief that it takes at least six contacts with a potential customer to close a sale.  So it is with rpm where it’s been proven that repeating the same phrase many times seals or cements the idea in the minds of the recipients.

Employee apps boost internal comms—and brand consistency

Ambassador workers

Next to your customers, your employees are the next best envoys for your company. Communicating with them frequently and clearly is critical in making them feel like part of the family. This is particularly critical if yours is a business with high turnover. This isn’t to say that marketers can back off, but the reach of many employees often goes far beyond the range of marketing. Keep the six degrees of separation in mind because everyone you employ has a broad and potentially untapped circle of influence.

Not only does recurring communication to their app make your message clearer, but it also helps to prevent rumors which are prone to occur when there’s an absence of interaction with management. Proud employees who feel informed are great ambassadors.

Reinforcement

Like the western movies of old, employee apps that receive regular messages are also vital for keeping employees up to date on new products, methods, etc. They likely will have been briefed on these by their supervisors, but as stated above, repetition reinforces the messages and awareness of your brand, and is good for internal public relations.

Balance

If your organization has multiple locations or franchises, employee apps also help to ensure that no one is left out of the goings-on within the organization. Don’t just use it to remind and instruct, but also lavish praise where due. People like to hear about the successes of others and are often inspired by these stories.

Other benefits

Although there is no other hard data about the benefits of utilizing employee apps, feedback tends to suggest that employee morale improves and that there is less worker turnover. It definitely encourages more engagement and leads to brand consistency.

Plus, we’ve no doubt heard about the “six degrees of separation” and various take-offs of that theory that originated early in the last century.  That was way before the arrival of social media where the ratio is probably much more improved.

The point is that keeping employees informed and educated digitally and on a regular basis can bring about big and long-lasting benefits.
