Don't think you need a PR agency right now? Think again

By Jason Mudd

This is one story in our series about COVID-19. Read 8 ways your PR agency can assist you during COVID-19 and 4 communications actions your company can do during COVID-19 for more.

With COVID-19 and the economy on hold, there's a huge need and opportunity for thoughtful and strategic corporate communications

Keep looking for PR firms and working with existing ones during COVID-19.Beyond the "what we're doing to prepare for coronavirus" messages that overwhelm your inbox, your brand needs help communicating during COVID-19 and the economic climate. PR firms are busy helping clients with external and internal communications.

Now is not the time to go silent. Now is the time to stay visible by helping your target audience adjust, survive, and thrive in the current environment.

Depending on your unique industry, this might be sharing helpful content, providing services in a new or unique way, meeting your customers where they are, and even donating to worthy causes to help us all get through this.

Our PR firm and other PR agencies nationwide are doing our part.

Here are some examples of what PR firms are doing right now amidst the health and economic conditions.

     1. Spokesperson media training with a virtual or work-from-home twist
Yes, some experts and executives are doing live video news interviews from their bedrooms!

     2. Serving as the communications lead on COVID-19 topics and task force
     3. Coaching clients

     4. Providing communications and training workshops
     5. Developing podcasts as a way to reach their clients' audience
     6. Sending daily COVID-19 updates related to the products and services their clients provide with their expertise

     7. Preparing for the next wave of crisis communications needs

In our experience, a change in the economy leads to more crisis communications needs. We worked with a national company for seven years before they had a single need for crisis communications, and then within six months, they had seven unique crises (that you could prepare for now) because of staff reductions, branch closures, rogue employees, etc.
