What Is A Calendar Listing?

CalendarEach month, we are sharing the 411 on some of the most oft-used tactics in our PR toolboxes.
Today’s lesson is on the calendar listing.
A calendar listing generally contains the “Who,” “What,” “Where,” “When,” “Why,” and cost of an event or program in a specific format. It is meant to be posted – often by us – to online calendars as well as sent to traditional and community media to share pertinent data on a specific event.
It is not a story pitch. This is.
It is not a news release. This is.
It should neither be sent to any hard-news media nor any long lead media if the date is less than a month away.
Examples of times to use a calendar listing:

  • Announcement of a music festival
  • Announcement of a community food drive
  • Announcement of a free hearing check for the community
  • Announcement of a gala
  • Announcement of open house events
  • Announcement of summer camp sign-ups

Oh, it’s also not a media advisory – but stay tuned as we tackle that tactic in the near future.
